Singapore’s National Environment Agency (NEA) has warned that the dengue problem in the country will get worse as the summer comes. Hot months are the prime seasons for the meetings of the mosquitoes that spread dengue.
Head of Singapore’s NEA chew Ming Fai has warned althoughs NEA and leaders has stepped up checks but citizens play a bigger role in keeping their home clean and mosquito free and helping their neighbors by awarding the situation.
NEA reported that there have had 119 cases in july 5.
NEA gross roots volunteers conducting houses visit from block to block to aware the people with dangues situation in the cluster as well as remind to take preventive measures.
Although dengues situation seem to be escalate with about 500 cases last week which is the highest weekly number in more than 3 years. Chew said about more than 55o cluster that emerged in the first half years have since been eliminated.
This years more than 6600 people have caught dengues which is the total number for both 2017 and 2018.
NEA said that 6117dengues cases reported during the first half of the year which way over the 1,379 dengues cases seen in same period last year.
This is due to the increase in mosquito population in the city state. Gravitrap surveillance system have shown that there was a 56% increase in mosquito population in may 2019 as compared to march 2019.
Warmer months are coming, so every individual needs to take action to prevent more people from being infected.

What can you do?
- Wear full sleeves and long pants
- Use registered mosquito repellent like DEET.
- Consider mosquito netting if you are in the area with high mosquito population
- Closed your door and window most of the time
- Avoid areas with standing water
- Don’t let standing water near your house.
- keep Clean sink in your kitchen and bathrooms
