A study found – plants do no have consciousness

Have you ever thought about that can plants think and what they think about themselves?

The scientist starts studying plant neurobiology since 2006, and the researcher starts to address whether the plant can think or not.

Now, an article published in the journal Trends in Plant Science has suggested that plants do not have consciousness. Scientist came to this conclusion after analyzing the research of neuroscientists Jon Mallatt and Todd Feinberg which was based on the evolution of gaining consciousness.

Lincoln Taiz, Professor at the University of California at Santa Cruz authored this opinion article reveal that absence of neurons is clear indication of absence of consciousness.

Scientist said that, Feinberg and Mallat study also play a big role in this study. Their study of the biological basis of consciousness with studies suggest that consciousness did not evolve just with the first appearance of nervous system, but it appears with the evolution of the brain with threshold level of complexity and functional specialization. Such thresholds the brain can be found in arthropods, vertebrates, and cephalopods. We want to prove the point according to the  Feinberg and Mallat’s analysis it is highly unlikely to have consciousness in plant.

However report also suggest that plant appear something different when it comes to their genetically programmed behavior. Such as plant use electric signals to distribute the charge molecules all across the body which results in curling the leaves but scientist called it preprogrammed cation not because of consciousness.

But team are now planning to conduct more experiments under different conditions to unveil more unanswered question about plant neurobiology.
